YDOC ML417 TELEMETRY UNIT

MLN417

ml315ds-pv_100

The ML417 is one of the most flexible and powerful telemetry units you will find. The units are built in to an IP67 rated enclosure. An antenna is fitted to the main printed circuit board and an external antenna may be fitted if  the units are to be used in locations with poor signal strength.
Our standard  MLN417 is  supplied with a universal (global) Cat M1 modem. This unit will operate on the 4G 700 MHz band operated by Telstra . The unit can also be supplied with a quad band 4G/3G modem which will operate on the 4G 700MHz network or on 3G on 850/900 MHz.  For further details, check the MLN417 brochure.
The ML417 can also be supplied with a WiFi or Satellite option. The WiFi unit allows you to deploy the RTU anywhere that you have local WiFi signal. Adding a directional Yagi or panel antenna will allow the range to be increased from the  standard 30-50m up to 600-800m.  The satellite option allows you to deploy YDOC RTUs in areas where there is no cellular coverage and we offer use of either the Iridium or Swarm Space satellite constellations.

Multiple Input Channels:
The ML417  RTU offers a wide range of inputs: 3 pulse/state change inputs, multi-channel  Serial inputs (SDI-12 and MODBUS), two off 4-20 mA channels, two off analogue voltage inputs and an accessory port which may be used to connect a number of optional accessories

Flexible power options

There are many ways in which you can power the YDOC units:
NiMH Cover:  The Nimh  cover allows the unit to be powered from any 9 to 30 V DC power source and   utilises a set of three AA sized NiMH rechargeable batteries

SLA: the SLA cover is usually mounted inside a separate enclosure in which you can fit a 3AH to 30AH battery, which charge coming from a 2W to 30W solar panel. You an use SLA or LiFePO4 (LFP) batteries
LFP: the LFP cover can be fitted with from 1 to 4 off 18650 sized LFP batteries, with charge coming from an external 2W to 5W solar panel
LI: the LI cover is designed for stand alone, non solar sites and can be fitted with a single 13AH Lithium battery
3LI: the 3LI cover can take up to 3 of the 13AH Lithium D cells
PV: the PV model has a built in 1W solar panel which charges a set of NiMH AA cells

Pulse Inputs

The RTUs carry three pulse inputs which may be used to monitor pulse flow meters, rain gauges etc. Pulse inputs can be recorded as count over a unit of time, as a totaliser or as a rate. They may also be used to detect a change in the state of an event i.e. for alarming.

Serial Inputs

The Serial input may be used to connect to SDI-12, RS232 or RS485 sensors. This opens up the RTUs to use with an extremely wide variety of “smart sensors”.

Accessory Port

iridium_100

gps_rx_100

The Accessory Port (ADS model only) is used to connect to a variety of YDOC accessories (only 1 per RTU) :
- GPS: a compact GPS receiver designed to connect to the RTU allowing it to be used to track moving assets
- Camera: a high resolution camera with IR LEDs for night time use. Captures images and sends them to an FTP Server
- Satellite Modem: an Iridium satellite modem which allows the RTU to be deployed in areas where no mobile coverage is available. The RTUs can be configured to fall back to the satellite service is mobile comms fails. Users no longer have to buy two devices - one for satellite and one for mobile comms - as they can simply purchase the MLN315ADS and add the Iridium modem when  the unit is being used on sites without mobile coverage.

Expansion Port

Although the MLN417 is packed with features, we know you can’t  please everybody. There is no point in continuing to increase the RTU capacity if on 99% of jobs, the extra channels are not required.  That is why the MLN417 is fitted with an expansion port in to which an additional board can be plugged. These are available with high resolution analogue input, bridge interface, 4-20 mA current interface and additional serial ports. Simply plug in the required board, enable it in the menu and connect your sensors.. The RTU’s capacity can be expanded by plugging in a small daughter boards (see below). Boards are available with high resolution analogue channels, additional serial ports, bridge interfaces etc and they can be stacked on top of one another. This approach means you are only paying for additional features as and when you need them. YDOC have chosen a very comprehensive set of “standard” functions which fit most use cases and now you have the flexibility to add extra inputs when you need them. The range of modules is growing continually and currently includes:
ML-OI-SDI: adds an extra SDI-12 ports:
ML-OI-485:  adds an RS485 port:
ML-OI-AD-MV: adds 2 off 16 bit mV inputs
ML-OI-AD-2V: adds 2 off 16 bit 0.25/0.5/1/2V  inputs
ML-OI-AD-10V: adds 4 off 0-10V analogue channels
ML-OI-BP: Barometric pressure sensor for level sensor compensation
ML-OI-BLE: Bluetooth LE board to enable programming and download via Bluetooth to your PC or smartphone
ML-OP-524: Expansion board to provide additional switched sensor power
ML-OI-DX: adds 4 off pulse/digital channels
ML-OI-AX-DSB18B20: for connection of up to 4 1 Wire DSB18B20 thermistors
ML-OI-AX-RH: for connection of a 1 wire relative humidity sensor
ML-OI-COM-RS232: for connection of a GPS when the Accessory port is already in use
ML-OI-COM-RS485: provides an additional RS485 port
ML-OI-SDI: provides an additional SDI-12 port
ML-OA-RS232: provides an additional RS232 port for a camera
ML-OI-WIFI: allows the RTU to send data via a local WiFi network rather than using a mobile/cellular connection
ML-OO-MOBUS: allows the RTU to send data to an on site SCADA system
ML-OO-SW: adds 4 off solid state switch outputs
ML-OC-W2P: Waveform to pulse converter for connection to flow meters and anemometers which have a coil/frequency output.

Communications

We provide cloud hosting services through Sensori and the data is sent via FTP from the YDOCs to that platform. But the units also support transfer via number of different mechanisms- and you can use more than one at a time. The choice includes; TFP, TCP, HTTP and MQTT.  If you want to send the readings to your own server, then install  YDOC’s TCP server module. It will collect the readings from the RTUs and also allow you to open a remote comms session for configuration and testing. The data can be downloaded in YDOC’s native format, in CSV format or in JSON format  The RTUs can also send data to an FTP server or as an attachment to an Email. These transfers can be used in isolation or in tandem.

Calculated Channels

Once you have configured the RTU, you can then create new calculated channels which are based on the values of one or more of the existing channels. The calculation module supports a range of 1, 2 and 3 variable functions and can utilise any existing sensor as an input.
There are also occasions where you will need to perform aggregation, for example when calculated average, maximum and minimum wind speeds. To this end, the RTUs also support Aggregated channels. Simply select the input channel, choose the scanning period and then decide on the calculations you wish to perform. The aggregated values then become available as saved channels.

Alarms

Alarms may be set on the value of any of the internal or external sensor channel, or on the value of a calculated channel . Two levels of alarm are available for both low and high conditions. When an alarm is triggered the units may send an SMS to one or more recipients. Further alarms may be generated from within the Sensori software once the data reaches it
.

MQTT

MQTT (Message queuing telemetry transport) is an efficient, open protocol for exchanging sensor data. Clients (RTUs) which are attached to sensors, send  data to a Broker, which subscribes to the message or data stream. Similarly applications can use MQTT to read in data for presentation to end users. MQTT has quickly become the protocol of choice in the rapidly growing Internet of Things (IoT) sector. By turning on the MQTT output option in the RTU you can now send your current or logged readings to any MQTT friendly application application be it one running on a Cloud Server or on your Smart Phone.
